Crew to row from the Cotswolds to London
30 April 2008
A veteran crew from the Royal Chester Rowing Club have set themselves the challenge of rowing the River Thames from the Cotswolds to London in a coxed eight. Starting on Sunday 18 May 18 this year, this daunting and formidable target involves a distance of 135 miles rowed over three days - from the river's upper reaches down to the spectacular London skyline - with 45 locks to negotiate along the way!
The challenge will demand a significant commitment of training time, fitness and organisation for the squad who’s age ranges from 49 to 67. The challenge will involve rowing for up to 10 hours a day.
To focus motivation the squad are raising as much money as possible in aid of a number of local, national and international charities - representing a wide range of appeal in terms of the benefits they achieve. The crew and support team will personally meet all the costs of staging this challenge ensuring that all donations go to the charities.
