Beale Park celebrates multiple births

BealePark, at Lower Basildon in Berkshire, is celebrating the arrival of more babies, following the birth of twin Red Handed Tamarins, a Pygmy Goat, three Rhea and several Peafowl.

The babies have all arrived within weeks of each other and have settled into the Park extremely well.  Dave Coles, Curator, said, “We are particularly pleased with the birth of the Red Handed Tamarins, who are one of the smallest monkeys in the world.   Marvin and Michelle only joined us last year, so it is very rewarding to see them with their babies and adapting to parenthood so well.”

Martimite, the Pygmy Goat, was born to Sierra, another first time Mum.  Both are fit and well and have rejoined the main group in the Pygmy Goat Pen in the Deer Park.

At the other end of the Park, the two Rhea chicks hatched to two different Mums within a week of each other.  Left to fend for themselves, the animal keepers intervened and are now hand rearing the birds, who have taken up residence in the stable block and enjoy a regular exercise session with their keeper.  The chicks will stay in the Park for the rest of this season before being re-homed.

Visitors will notice an abundance of peafowl chicks running to catch up with their Mums as they explore the grounds.  Known for its Peacocks, Beale Park has several roaming Peafowl, two of which are celebrating the arrival of their new brood with considerable admiration from visitors.
