Waterways Trust encourages applications for 'Small Grant Scheme'
25 January 2008
The Thames Waterways Trust urges community groups situated along the non-tidal stretch of the River Thames to apply for grants of up to £5,000 to help finance projects taking place on the river. With just one month left to apply until the deadline of 1 March 2008, anyone wanting grants are urged to submit applications as soon as possible.
The Waterways Trust is a national charity which works to encourage greater public enjoyment of our nation’s waterways and uses the funds available from waterways environmental and heritage charities for environmental, activity or education projects on the River Thames between Teddington and Cricklade.
Joanne Darlington, Appeals Manager, said: “Each year we distribute approximately £20,000 to projects along the River Thames which either encourage more people to visit and experience the river or are help to improve habitats for wildlife along the waterway.
“This can include waterway regeneration, conservation, recreation, community, arts, education, access or activity projects on and near the River Thames.”
The Waterways Trust works closely with the Environment Agency to raise funds for activities, access and environmental projects along the River Thames. The Small Grants Scheme is a step towards this endeavour. The scheme is made possible thanks to the donations from supporters of The Waterways Trust.
Joanne said: “The River Thames has a special place in many people’s hearts and we are very grateful to our supporters. Their regular donations help fund schemes to improve the environment and educational and community projects along the Thames.”
Applications must be made on a Small Grants Scheme application form which can be downloaded from www.thewaterwaystrust.org.uk Alternatively contact Jenny Rogers on 0151 373 4391 or email jenny.rogers@thewaterwaystrust.org.uk for a form.
