A Trip to the River and Rowing Museum
Louise Jones, 36, tells us about her family day out to the River and Rowing Museum and the River Thames at Henley.
Your reason for going to the river?
To enjoy a lovely family day out, that would appeal to all the family.
What did you do on your trip to the river?
We had a fabulous family day out in Henley on Thames, which kept all the family entertained. We started the day by driving to Henley and parking down by the river in front of the River and Rowing Museum. We then looked around the museum, which was extremely good and entertained all the family for the entire morning.
The children particularly liked the permanent “Wind in the Willows” exhibition which had lots of interactive exhibits and really helped the story come alive for them – they particularly liked Toad dressed like a washerwoman!
It was then time for lunch so we took our blanket and food and had a lovely picnic on the grass area in front of the River and Rowing Museum. We were able to watch the boats going by including the big trip boats from Henley. It was a great picnic and a really nice relaxing location; we really like being outside and enjoying the summer at last.
We played a few ball games after lunch, until my husband and I got too worn out. Then we took the kids to the fabulous kids play area where they enjoyed all the activities and we could relax. The play park is located on the way back towards Henley from the River and Rowing Museum and really caters for all ages. In the late afternoon we wandered back to the River and Rowing Museum and had a lovely cup of tea and cake, before driving home.
What time of year did you go?
Summertime
What did you like best about it, did everything go to plan? Especially include anything that was really memorable or quirky.
The thing I like best about a day out like this is I really feel the kids have gained something from the day. As well as learning in the museum in the morning the kids got lots of physical exercise in the afternoon. Everything went to plan really!
What could have been improved or done differently? Did anything go wrong or was not as you'd expected?
Only the weather could have been slightly sunnier.
