Founded in 1835, the British Geological Survey (BGS) is the United Kingdom's premier centre for earth science information and expertise. The BGS offers a range of popular publications, educational events and resources. The BGS is a member of SETNET and participant in the Science and Engineering Ambassadors scheme.

- BGS is a scientific research centre Part of Natural Environment Research Council NERC http://www.nerc.ac.uk
- Thames resources
- Geology and well records for wells, boreholes and springs in the Thames area that have been made in the past or at present for water supply or investigation purposes. Projects investigating Groundwater flooding in the Thames Valley (Oxford and parts of Henley). BGS is in the process of constructing a 3D computer geological model of parts of the Thames area to help understand the geology around London and beyond for research and commercial purposes.
- Number of programmes offered to schools
- No programmes offered specifically. Usually the site runs a National Science Week programme in March, which is attended by local schools. During Science Week, a number of activities for KS2 and KS3 students are offered, for example, interactive experiments focusing on environmental issues. Science week normally also involves a public open day.BGS has experience in school visits and practical science demonstrations on the subject of geology and hydrogeology for primary and seconday children and general public.
