Discover 2010 Business Page
Discover your River Thames 2010 is a marketing campaign aimed at enticing families and day visitors to try fun-packed, boating and leisure activities on the River Thames over the summer and autumn period 2010.
We are working with members of BMF Thames Valley (formerly TBTA), Passenger Boat Association (PBA), Association of Thames Yachts Clubs (ATYC) and River Thames Alliance Marketing Partnership (RTAMP) to bring a huge range of opportunities to families via special offers and open days.
Please note that a customer-facing version of this page will go live to the public on 19 March 2010.
How will the campaign work?
The campaign has two main elements: special offers, events and open days, and a children's passport scheme. Businesses taking part in Discover your River Thames 2010 have the option to be involved in one or both elements of the campaign (see below for more information), with the main thrust of PR activity around the passport scheme. All promotional activity will drive traffic to www.visitthames.co.uk/discover2010.
Option 1 - provide the campaign with special offers and open days. Special offers must fit in to one of the following three categories (entry in more than one category is permitted).
- One child goes free (with a fare-paying adult)
- 20% off
- free (including open days)
Option 2 - participate in a passport scheme, whereby children collect stickers to enter into their Discover your River Thames passports when purchasing tickets or visiting open days at participating organisations. Members will be provided with stickers to hand out to those presenting a passport.
What is the passport scheme?
Children will be able to download a passport from the website (from 29 May 2010), which they can use to collect sickers from participating businesses. When they've collected at least three stickers they can exchange the passport for a free prize. If they collect all five stickers they will get free entry in to a prize draw to win a luxury family break on the River Thames (to be decided). Children can return their passports to RTAMP or alternatively, children can hand their passports in at one of the following events:
- Beale park Boat Show (4-6 June 2010)
- Inland Waterways Festival (28-30 August 2010)
How long will the campaign run?
The campaign will run from 1 April - 31 October 2010, with passports available to download from the website from 29 May 2010.
Please note: There will be a further opportunity to provide new special offers in June 2010.
Promotional activity
Businesses taking part in the campaign can expect promotion on a dedicated page of visitthames.co.uk, along with a listing of any special offers/open days they are offering. Those taking part in the passport scheme will be promoted directly to regional and family-orientated media through press releases and other targeted activities.
We will produce campaign flyers and distribute them via locks, events, tourist information centres, participating businesses.
We will also e-mail the Tourism South East consumer database, as well as our own in-house database of Visit Thames users. Consumers wishing to subscribe will receive regular campaign newsletters telling them about events and special offers.
