Camping
Get the family back in touch with nature this summer with a camping adventure alongside the River Thames. Ditch pre-conceived ideas of noisy, over crowded campsites and pitch your tent at one of our lock sites. Most boast fewer than 10 pitches, guaranteeing space to enjoy your family time.
"Three cheers for whoever it was at the Environment Agency who came up with the idea of allowing camping at certain Thames locks", wrote Dixe Wills in the Guardian recently.
Hurley Lock campsite is located on its own gated island in the middle of the River Thames, and ideally situated between Henley-on-Thames and Marlow to take advantage of a wealth of family activities and attractions. Or give Cookham Lock a go, where you'll be rewarded with pitch on Sashes island beneath the towering Cliveden cliffs.
Take a look at our camping page for more inspiration.
Get out and get active
The River Thames is a fantastic place to get your family out and enjoying the countryside.
Set in a unique riverside location near Marlow, Longridge provides a range of exciting water sports and land-based activities for kids and adults alike. Try out rowing, sailing or even giant water orbs for a fun filled day. If you're looking for something a bit more relaxing, why not take a wildlife spotting boat trip with Hobbs of Henley or one of their daily scheduled river trips. See our Get Active page for more ideas.Year of the Museum
South East England is celebrating museums during 2010, so why not join in the fun and see what your local area has to offer.
Enter the world of Wind in the Willows at Henley’s River and Rowing Museum or visit one of the three galleries devoted to the River Thames and the Olympic sport of rowing.
Visit Reading Museum where they're celebrating the famous bear from Darkest Peru: Paddington Bear. This exciting exhibition tells the story from the very first book published in 1958 to the most recent Paddington series.
