The Thames Pedalo Challenge
In the team’s own words…
1 River Thames.. 2 Pedalos.. 6 Idiots.. 8 Days.. 135 miles to pedal.
A team of six men are aiming to pedal 135 miles along the River Thames on yellow pedalos – the slowest form of water transport - in eight days. The challenge will take place between Lechlade and London, with the team aiming to reach Putney Bridge by Saturday 30 August.
The team will pedal for nine hours a day, at an average speed of two miles per day to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimer’s Society and Wateraid charities.
Why not go down to the river and see if you can spot our yellow pedalo friends and cheer them on as they pass through the following areas:
- Saturday 23 August: Lechlade to Newbridge (16 Miles)
- Sunday 24 August: Newbridge to Abingdon (23 Miles)
- Monday 25 August: Abingdon to Wallingford (13 Miles)
- Tuesday 26 August: Wallingford to Reading (17 Miles)
- Wednesday 27 August: Reading to Marlow (17 Miles)
- Thursday 28 August: Marlow to Runnymede (18 Miles)
- Friday 29 August: Runnymedeto Teddington (19 Miles)
- Saturday 30 August: Teddington to Putney Bridge (12 Miles)
Sponsored by First Great Western trains, the team had their pedalos specially built for the challenge. Once the challenge is over, they will donate them to UK Youth, the young people’s charity.
