Walking Breaks on the River Thames

With a choice of hotels, B&Bs, campsites and youth hostels, most well served by public transport, the Thames Path is perfect for walking holidays of any distance, duration or budget.

The Thames Path National Trail Companion guide and the National Trails website, provide practical information about accommodation, facilities, distances, transport and other aspects of the route from a three week holiday to a day out with the dog.

People walking the Thames PathA good idea on a walking holiday is to send your luggage on ahead. Symbols in the Companion guide show accommodation providers who will take your luggage to the next night's stop. Or you can organise a walking holiday with one of the companies listed below, which includes accommodation and luggage transfer. Holidays are available all year round. En suite accommodation is generally provided on a B&B basis in hand-picked guest houses or small hotels along the trail.

Most companies also include the following in their prices: a map of the route, guidebook, travel instructions to and from the start and finish route, and an emergency contact.

Responsible Travel - offers self-guided walking breaks of any length, from two or three days walking to hikes along the length of the Thames Path between the Thames Barrier at Greenwich and the source of the Thames in the Cotswolds. Just select the part of the path that you want to walk.

Walk the Landscape - books accommodation and organises luggage transfer for self-guided walking along all or any part of the trail. As is usual, extra non-walking days can be included in the break.

Explore Britain - offers self-guided walking tours along the whole length of the trail. The minimum length of holiday is five days and six nights, to include one full day in Oxford and four days walking from Oxford to Reading, a distance of 39 ½ miles. The maximum is 17 nights, to cover the whole trail.
