Eton is part of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead and sits on the opposite bank of the River Thames from Windsor and is connected by a footbridge. The parish church is dedicated to St John The Evangelist was consecrated in 1854 and the red-brick church of St John the Baptist was consecrated by Samuel Wilberforce, then Bishop of Oxford.
