Salter Steamers Ltd - Reading
Type: Boat Trip
Salter's Steamers is a family firm that has provided first-class hospitality on the Royal River Thames for over 150 years (est. 1858). Cruises combine traditional style, contemporary comforts and the highest modern standards combined with some of the most beautiful scenery in England.
Scheduled (Public) Trips
During the summer the scheduled trips operate from every major location on the Upper-Thames between the university city of Oxford and the London boundary city of Staines (including such famous places as Reading, Henley and Windsor).
Short Trips - Salter's operate a variety of shorter round trips either 40 minutes or 2 hours from the places listed below:
Oxford, Abingdon, Reading, Henley, Marlow and Windsor
Please note that some of the trips only run on particular days and are all subject to weather conditions and boat availability (please check with the Oxford Office on 01865 243421). Although the official season runs from late May to late September we will also run short trips from select locations before and after these dates if the weather is particularly good.
Public Trips - 7 days a week in season from 24th May to 14th September 2014 and these are available from the locations listed below
Special Event Cruises
In addition a timetable of one-off special cruises are available held from a number of different locations throughout the year. These include public jazz cruises (from Oxford and Windsor), special services along unusual routes (e.g. Oxford to Wolvercote) as well as different trips to mark certain events (e.g. Bunkfest at Wallingford).
Punts, day-boats and other small craft (from Oxford only) are for hire for those who wish to have a more hands-on experience from an hour, a half day or a day. Why not try your hand at punting? This remains one of the most enjoyable summer activities and a quintessential pastime for Oxonians. Hire boats also include rowing boats as well as electric motor boats and diesel day boats for those who wish to expend less energy.
All boats are hired on a first-come first-serve basis. An advance booking service is available on all of the day boats (these must be pre-paid). Self-powered craft (such as punts) can be pre-ordered but only if more than one is required. The timings of advanced booking cannot be changed once they are reserved.
Children are welcome on any of the self-drive craft and life jackets are available for those who wish to have them.
A refundable security deposit of £50.00 is required for all un-powered craft and £100.00 for all powered craft. Photo identification should also be brought. All boats that pre-booked are reserved strictly for the times arranged and customers are recommended to arrive 10 minutes before the departure time (to fill in the appropriate paper work). Hire times cannot be extended for those who arrive late (full terms and conditions available from the Oxford office).
Salters have been building boats since 1858 and build a full range from punts to electric craft.
