Day 13 Caversham to Henley
A massive group turned up for todays walk that was led by Pipsticks and Walks Works (photo 1) and we got an enthusiastic history of Caversham bridge followed by some words from the Reading Mayor to see us on our way. We made it safely across the Sonning bridge crossing and made our way to Shiplake Lock, where we had lunch then we continued to Henley via the diversion for a group shot in front on the Mural created by Vickie Amarilis .
Day 14 Henley to Marlow
Today's section of the relay started off in Mill Meadows Henley nxt to the fabulous 'Nature on the Thmes' mural panted by local artist Vicki Amarilis (photo 2). Vicki alos joined us for the walk today, which was a fabulius surprise. We had the Mayor of Henley with us (Cllr Ian Reissman), plus James Mantel from Drinkable Rivers who both gave rousing talks at the start to send us on our way in style. The walk was led by Pippa from Pipsticks Walks as she led us all the way to the suspension bridge in Marlow. It was a warm one, but regular shady breaks an a steady pace made it a very pleasant day.
Day 15 Marlow to Cookham
Today saw us embark on our walk along one of the prettiest stretches of the Thames Path - Marlow to Cookham. Higgenson Meadow is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year so it made a fitting part of our own anniversary relay. We were seen off in style by the Mayor or Marlow Cllr Jenny Simnett and led by Sian Herschel a local resident from Marlow, and one of our Thames Path Volunteers matt Hunt. It was the hottest day so far, with temperatures reaching 27 degrees, so its fair to say we were all pleased to reach the ice-cream stand at the half way point in Bourne End! Our finish point was the Stanley Spence Gallery in Cookham.
