Valentine, Bazalgette Embankment

Best thing to do for Valentine’s Day 2027 – visit the new Bazalgette Embankment, Secret London

My love,

I could have given you

a super sewer,

but that is deep-hidden,

so instead I gather novelty,

greenery, artistry of hands and minds,

gather ‘gathering’ –

the space is made for this –

and now I arrive

with my gathered-together

urban heart

and a blue-washed February day,

trusting you know that my

love deep-hidden

like a sparkling river flows.

BAZALGETTE EMBANKMENT, Blackfriars

This is a newly created public space, featuring landscaped areas and specially commissioned sculptures. It sits atop the new Thames ‘super sewer’, part of the Thames Tideway Tunnel project.

Blackfriars

Blackfriars is an area in the south-west corner of the City of London on the north bank of the Thames.

It came about as the location for a friary during the 13th century, where all the friars wore black cloaks. Blackfriars has a long history. Many buildings were destroyed by the Great Fire of London in 1666 and was heavily bombed during the Second World War. Some of the original Victoria and Georgian buildings remain and are popular film locations including for David Copperfield and Sherlock Holmes.

The Thames Path team have teamed up with Go Jaunty to bring you this series of walks in our grand Capital city. Follow the North Bank of the famous River Thames all the way from Hampton Court to Greenwich. The route is broken down into 6 chunks, so you can pick the one…
