As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations, we’ve been asking some of the people who help make the Thames Path so special to share their 'Trail Tales' along the Path - photo, story, or maybe a favourite spot. Wendy Tobitt, Chair of the Thames Path Partnership, chose a stretch that combines riverside walking with thousands of years of history.
For Wendy, one of the most fascinating sections of the Thames Path is along the north bank through the City of London. Here, every step reveals another chapter in the story of our capital. Walkers can pause at the striking Queenhithe Mosaic near Globe View Walkway (see photo below), explore the historic St Magnus the Martyr church and its model of Old London Bridge, or wander around the iconic Tower of London, imagining the many historic events that have unfolded within its walls. Along the way, you can even see sections of the Roman walls of Londinium, reminders that the Thames has been at the heart of London’s story for nearly two thousand years.
Wendy’s choice is a wonderful reminder that the Thames Path is more than just a walking trail. It is a journey through history, connecting people with landscapes, communities and stories that span the centuries.
