Between the 8th and 10th May 2025 there will be plenty to see and do in Henley-on-Thames as it goes all out to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.

VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day. It commemorates May 8, 1945, when Prime Minister at the time Winston Churchill announced that fighting in Europe against Nazi Germany had ended.

The town have pulled out all the stops for this special anniversary with three days of celebration and commemoration of what it was like to live in Henley during World War II. From educating over 120 pupils of what is was like to live in Henley then, stepping back in time with a fully immersive 1940s Dance Hall Experience, to experiencing Henley in wartime where, for the first time ever, Henley Market Place will host a Mark IX Spitfire.

While there, why not take a walk on the Thames Path. Just a short stroll from the town square and you’ll be at the riverside walk. For walk inspiration see our suggested short route: Base | Henley Short Loop
