The source is marked by a distinctive stone and is a popular destination for walkers keen to stand at the start of the Thames' remarkable 185 mile journey to London (or 215-miles if you go all the way to the sea in Kent!). Along the way, you'll pass through the peaceful Cotswold countryside and experience the landscape where the river begins.
One important thing to remember: don't be surprised if you don't see any water! For much of the year, particularly during dry periods, the start of the Thames flows underground in this area. The spring only emerges above ground when water levels are high enough, so you may find yourself standing at the source of a river with no visible river at all.
Whether the water is flowing or hidden beneath your feet, visiting the Thames Head is a special experience and a great way to connect with the river's story from its very first steps.
