Exploring the Thames Rivers and Streams with Thames Path volunteer Richard Mayon-White and Wendy Yorke

'Exploring the Thames Rivers and Streams' published in June features 33 of the larger tributaries and streams that flow into the River Thames between its source in Gloucestershire meadows and the estuarine coasts of Essex and Kent.

This wonderful book opens with the Swill Brook, probably the first tributary of the Thames, that rises from springs near Fossegate, the most westerly point of the Thames catchment.

The following pages continue the debate about the 'source of the River Thames', which is sure to delight many people who hold strong opinions about this!

This opening chapter illustrates four features that are part of the fun of exploring these rivers: looking for the source of each river, puzzling about their names, discovering the rivers' history, and watching wildlife.

Authors Richard Mayon-White and Wendy Yorke carefully researched and walked every step of their 50 favourite riverside walks, which are beautifully illustrated with their photos. Another 130 walks are listed, that are easy to find or have published guides.

Each section starts with a useful map of the counties and boroughs from where the rivers flow into the Thames: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Surrey, Sussex, Hertfordshire, several London boroughs north and south of the river, Kent and Essex.

It is truly a 'book of wonders'...thank you Richard and Wendy for this superb sequel to your first book 'Exploring the Thames Wilderness'.
