Online route map to follow: Base | Goring Longer Loop
Route Highlights:
- Begin at Goring & Streatley Station, following the Thames Path through water meadows rich in wintering wildfowl like tufted ducks and pochards.
- Ascend into Hartslock Nature Reserve, a chalk grassland and yew woodland area where red kites often soar overhead.
- Return along the riverbank for chances to spot kingfishers darting across the water.
- Scenic views of the Goring Gap, where the Thames cuts through the Chiltern Hills, make this a stunning winter walk.
Tips:
- Wear waterproof boots—the Thames Path and reserve can be muddy in winter.
- Bring binoculars and check the Environment Agency Floodline before setting out, as low-lying meadows can flood.
- Parking available at Goring & Streatley station; cafés nearby for a warm drink after your walk.
