You could be forgiven for hearing the words ‘Henley Regatta’ and thinking it was a singular event held in the pretty town of Henley-upon-Thames, but this quaint riverside community is actually host to FOUR separate and completely independent regattas!
- Henley Royal Regatta 1st – 6th July 2025
- Henley Women’s Regatta 20-22 June 2025
- Henley Master’s Regatta 11 and 12 July 2025
- Henley Town and Visitors Regatta 2nd Aug 2025
Henley Royal Regatta, which this year is being held over 6 days between the 1st and 6th of July is visited by more than 300,000 people each year and boasts over 400 races across six days of elite sporting competition.
But why is it called a ‘Royal Regatta’, I hear you cry! In 1851, HRH Prince Albert became the Regatta’s first Royal Patron. Since the death of The Prince Consort, the reigning Monarch has always consented to become Patron. This patronage means the Regatta can be called Henley Royal Regatta.
Henley Women’s Regatta
Henley Women’s Regatta is the premier regatta for women in the United Kingdom. Each year more than 2,000 rowers travel from all over the UK and from across the world to compete. Henley Women’s Regatta offers exciting side-by-side match racing for a wide range of competitors. Spectators are welcome to watch and enjoy the racing along the full length of the course – no tickets required!
Henley Masters Regatta
Hosted and run by Upper Thames Rowing Club (UTRC), the regatta has grown into an internationally recognised event for masters crews. Competitors travel from all over the world to compete over 1000 metres on the famous Henley reach.
Henley Town and Visitors Regatta
This regatta developed from the Henley Rowing Club Boat Races, which started in the late 1850s. Its name changed to Henley Town Regatta in 1887 and the word Visitor was later added to show that the Regatta was open to competitors from clubs not based in Henley.
