National Volunteers Week

This is an annual event dedicated to recognising the contributions of volunteers across the country. This year’s National Volunteers Week is Monday 2nd June to Sunda 8th June. It is an opportunity to celebrate and express gratitude for the efforts of volunteers in various communities, and at the Thames Path we are lucky enough to have a fabulous squad of volunteers who assist us in maintaining the trail.

The Thames Path is 184 miles long, but our team is very small, so our dedicated crew of volunteers are the backbone of the maintenance work we do.

Our volunteers perform two key roles for us – monitors and practical volunteers. The monitors walk sections of the path (roughly 3 - 5miles) for us on a regular basis are vital in helping inform us of problems and helping us to maintain the trail with small amounts of vegetation trimming and litter clearing.

The practical volunteers undertake takes such as vegetation clearance, installation and repair of signs, gates and bridges and some workshop tasks which are all led by staff from the National Trails team.

The Thames Path Team would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our monitors and volunteers for all they do.
