In 2026, the Thames Path National Trail celebrates 30 years since its official opening. To mark this milestone, a month‑long relay walk will take place along the entire length of the trail – from the source of the Thames in the Cotswolds to Woolwich in east London.
The relay will follow the full 185.2‑mile route of the Thames Path National Trail, passing through peaceful water meadows, historic towns and cities, famous landscapes, and internationally recognised riverfront locations. Each day, walkers will carry the relay forward in manageable sections, led by volunteer walk leaders and local walking groups.
The relay is designed to be inclusive, welcoming and celebratory, bringing together local communities, volunteers, walking groups and partners who care about the River Thames and the Thames Path. Sections vary in length, allowing people to take part in ways that suit their time and ability.
Would you like to join us? There's no charge, just tur up at the correct start time and join the fun! Find a link to the full itinerary below.
