Wiltshire’s Thames Path

Celebrate Wiltshire Day on 5 June with a stroll through the Thames-side water meadows to Inglesham, possibly the most northern settlement in the county of Wiltshire, where the Thames Path National Trail passes the historic church of St John the Baptist.

This was a favourite church of the poet Sir John Betjeman. He visited many times with his friend and artist John Piper, who created sketches and paintings of the extraordinary interior of this ancient building.

Visit Cricklade, the first town on the Thames Path. This is where the young River Thames emerges from its source in the Cotswold water meadows and passes through the town on its way towards Lechlade.

Cricklade is proud of the wild flowers and nature thriving here, and celebrates the Snake’s-head Fritillaries growing on North Meadow National Nature reserve every spring.
