About
The Chilterns AONB stretches from the River Thames between Wallingford and Marlow up through Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire to Hitchin in Hertfordshire and was designated in 1965 as one of the finest areas of countryside in the UK.
We produce many leaflets on scenic circular walks, including walks by the Thames. Some of these are short easy strolls for the less mobile while others are longer and more undulating. We also organise regular events such as guided walks and family fun days with lots of activities for children.
The rolling hills, valleys and woodlands of the Chilterns next to the River Thames provide lots of fascinating places to explore and many tranquil spots to get away from it all. Visit historic houses like Stonor and Mapledurham or take a tour of a vineyard or brewery. Why not get on your bike – the circular Chilterns Cycleway comes down to the Thames valley near Wallingford and Henley. Visit our website (see right) for lots more information on things to do and places to visit in the Chilterns.
